Our Story
We discovered Laverock Law in 2011, despite the fact that the cottages were semi derelict and unloved, there was a truly magical feeling to it. We knew immediately that this was the place for us, a place where we could create our own family home and a unique and special holiday space where families, couples and groups of friends could come to explore the beauty of Northumberland's coast, wildlife, castles and its fantastic hills and moorlands. Our motto at Laverock Law has always been ‘your holiday is as important to us as it is to you’ and we always work hard to make sure that you have the best of stays.

Sustainability is crucial to our success.
Most of the work creating Laverock Law has been done by ourselves, we are all passionate about sustainability and wildlife and love the area where we live. Our ethical and sustainable ethos means you can enjoy fantastic holiday accommodation with minimal environmental impact. This is why in 2018 we won both local awards and also the national Visit England Excellence award for sustainable tourism. This reflects both the quality of our cottages and also the many sustainable aspects which we have incorporated into their renovation and daily operation. The real testimony to this however are our guests who come back year after year. Some of the ‘green features’ that you will benefit from whilst staying with us are the luxury of organic bedding, local foods and homemade cakes to welcome you, abundant wildlife habitats and wilding areas including a tree platform and campfire pit where you can enjoy fantastic sunsets, birdsong and amazing starry skies. The cottages also have low carbon heating and hot water systems, our own electricity generation, electric vehicle charging points and eco cleaning materials etc. |
A visit to Laverock Law will always start with a warm welcome and a homemade cake. We are normally around to welcome you, help you with ideas of places to visit, the best local walks and cycle rides or simply to help with finding the best places to eat, drink and enjoy great Northumberland food and hospitality.

Here are some suggestions to help make your stay as green as possible:
- We purchase our energy from a fully renewable supplier. Please can you help us by being careful and aware of about how much energy you use. Try to switch off lights and turn things off on standby.
- Be Water Wise – can you use less water? Maybe take a shower instead of a bath and turn the tap off whilst brushing teeth. Please also respect our septic tank and do not put sanitary wear, nappy liners or wet wipes down the toilet.
- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle! You can recycle card, plastic bottles, tins and glass at Laverock Law Cottages and you can also use the garden compost. Please be mindful of packaging when you make purchases and at the end of your stay avoid food waste by not binning the bananas!
- Shop local and support the local economy – you have a taste of what there is to offer in the area in your welcome pack. Try the delicious cheese and ice-cream from Doddington Diary, honey from Chainbridge Honey Farm, fish from Swallows in Seahouses. There are numerous fantastic local shops so please support them.
- Please look after our countryside. There is a lot of wildlife around the Laverock area. This is really important to us and you can help by keeping it as a haven for wildlife by taking litter home and following the Country Code.
- Plan your days out and if possible try to make use of public transport or borrow one of our bikes.
